At A Glance To deliver an effective Accounting service to a range of internal and external customers that help meet the strategic imperatives of the business. The role will interface between the all other areas of Finance to support collaborative team-working and improve co-ordination of activities. What You'll Be Doing Financial accounting * Manage the financial accounting needs of the UKI business * Own all non trading balances - as above * Reconcile financial accounting balance sheet and other relevant accounts * Ensure accurate calculation and reporting of provisions and other complex areas of accounting * Ad hoc accounting projects - primarily developing accounting solutions for changes to the business. Financial control * Ensure appropriate application of relevant accounting policies resulting in optimal financial performance of the business. * Reconcile all accounts in a timely manner. * Ensure compliance of Financial Accounting Team to relevant journal / balance sheet reconciliation processes / policies. Intercompany * Manage all aspects of the intra and intercompany process ensuring group intercompany policy is fully adhered to. * Ensure all mismatched are resolved and corrected in line with Group Policy Fixed Assets * Ensure all fixed asset processes are fully agreed and documented. * Fully reconcile the fixed assets registers to the general ledger. * Lead project to ensure completeness of Oracle fixed asset registers. * Identify and implement improvements in both systems and processes. Audit Management * Key contact for External Auditors - manage the year end audit and quarterly reviews * Arrange and manage relevant "ad hoc" audits * Key contact for Internal audit - working together to ensure an optimal control environment Organisational effectiveness & cost management * Challenge accounting processes and structures to ensure resource allocation is optimised. * Identify & adopt optimal working practices to ensure business needs are met efficiently & effectively. At A Glance To provide an effective Financial Accounting service to a range of internal and external customers and to ensure that all areas of ownership are controlled in an efficient manner. The role will be responsible for ensuring compliance to Group Accounting Policies and relevant GAAP, including the review and ongoing documentation of policy application and accounting process. The role will also be responsible for all aspects of Pensions accounting and reporting with the UKI business. What You'll Be Doing Financial accounting * Lead on any technical accounting issues - working with accounting team and Group Finance. * Develop and document an accounting policy manual for the UKI business. * Develop and document relevant accounting processes. * Ensure appropriate application of relevant accounting policies resulting in optimal financial performance of the business, whilst continually challenging the application and impact of existing and new accounting policies. * Ensure accurate calculation and reporting of complex areas of accounting (e.g. Pensions) * Ad hoc accounting projects - primarily developing accounting solutions for changes to the business Pension accounting * Work closely with Group Finance to ensure accurate Pensions accounting, reporting and forecasting. * Ensure all Pension scheme Company covenants are met through close management of the end to end pension process. Under guidance of the Senior Managers - IT Audit or Lead Auditors- IT Audit, delivers assurance activity to support reviews as to the effectiveness of the control environment in the Aviva UK region. Whilst based in the UK the role will require flexibility. This role will require working between Aviva UK offices and could involve an element 15-20% of travel. ACCOUNTABILITIES In delivering independent assurance for reviews the Senior Auditor - IT Audit is accountable for: * Developing appropriate assurance work programmes and executing the work programmes for the assigned review. * Producing high quality working papers and audit file to support the findings of the reviews assigned to. * Producing high quality audit issues, findings and reports from the reviews they are assigned to. * Applying audit methodology and standards to more complex reviews. * Participates in UK and overseas reviews as required, working flexibly in order to achieve this. * Leading specific individual reviews, as delegated by Senior Manager(s) - IT Audit, from planning to close. * Supporting the Lead Auditor(s) with stakeholder management at Head of and senior management level within the business for the relevant business area subject to audit review. * Supporting the Lead Auditor(s) in reporting findings to local business management and Internal Audit teams. QUALIFICATIONS * Degree and professional qualification preferred. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE * Developing specialist, current and in depth technical knowledge of at least one specific area relevant to the business. * Good understanding of risk management and assurance techniques. * Good general business understanding or IT knowledge. * Working knowledge of best practice in project and change management. EXPERIENCE * Minimum requirement to be studying in a relevant qualification. * Good knowledge of risk management and audit techniques. * Minimum requirement for 2 years relevant business knowledge or audit experience.
