Open Source Senior Software Engineer - Cambridge This team is responsible for improving support for open-source cloud infrastructure. In particular, we work to improve the integration between our Cloud Platform and the open-source communities they interact with: OpenStack, Apache CloudStack, and the Linux distros such as Debian, Ubuntu, and Fedora. You will be responsible for software design and development within the OpenStack, Apache CloudStack, and Linux distro communities, and with collaboration with the company software and CloudStack product teams. Your responsibility will be to improve and the support the integration between these projects, to improve the use of company software for developers and users of public and private cloud deployments. This will include design and test of new features, integrated system development and test, and packaging and installation. You will also be responsible for aiding and encouraging use of our products and the new features that you have developed, including mailing list support, documentation, and blogging. This is primarily a development role, but includes significant R & D responsibilities, and day-to-day project management and scheduling. You will be a senior technical member of the team in Cambridge, working most closely with a peer team in California, the teams in Cambridge, and the open-source communities globally. This is a small team, with responsibility for all aspects of feature development, including reviews and automated QA. This is a rare opportunity to participate in a pure open-source project with an open mandate to innovate. Responsibilities * Feature design and development. * Collaboration with multiple open-source communities around the world. * Prototype development through to product-quality feature development, including documentation and automated testing. * Community leadership and advice. * Bachelor's degree or better, preferably in software engineering or computer science. * 5+ years experience of distributed systems software development preferred, though strong post-doctoral candidates are also welcome to apply. * Experience of Python or Java essential. OpenStack development is in Python; Apache CloudStack is in Java. C and OCaml would also be very helpful, for work on the Cloud Platform. * Experience within open-source communities strongly preferred. * Experience of Linux distro installation / packaging / upstreaming would be helpful. Lead Software Test Engineer - Cambridge We are looking for top QA talent, the opportunities and cultural diversity that you can find in our Platform Group are second to none. The group remit is to create production quality, true platform agnostic products and tools spanning the OS spectrum (Linux, Unix, Mac and Windows) to ensure business continuity for our product line. Tests production software of moderate complexity to ensure quality through the use of systematic tests from QA through release. Develops, modifies and evaluates software test plans used to design, implement, test, and optimize software on multiple projects. Selects appropriate methods and techniques to resolve issues. Maintains and drives continuous quality improvement in meeting internal and external customer requirements. Communicates and coordinates with managers, other peer testers and developers to build alignment between cross-functional groups. Provides guidance to STEs. Primary Duties / Responsibilities: * Responsible for planning and executing functional and system level testing of products across OS platforms to test various features. * Writes test plans and test cases for one or more medium to large functional areas. * Sets up test environments, executes tests, records results and defects, and works with developers to reproduce problems and get them resolved. * Builds out interdependent test beds, and can write effective plans based off of functional, design and requirements specification. * Writes effective manual and intermediate automated test cases or automated frameworks. * Oversees software defect tracking and regression for identified project release. * Responsible for integrity of technical quality control work on assigned projects and communicates with team to maintain functionality, and efficacy. * Uses the right quality control tools to uncover defects and discover the state of the code. * Establishes and maintains thorough and accurate documentation of all work including status updates to summarize project highlights. * Maintains and drives continuous quality improvement in meeting internal and external customer requirements and maintaining awareness to meet ROI. * Interprets project activities on going to ensure prioritization of deliverables and accuracy in estimated milestone parameters. * Follows prescribed software engineering and test processes, procedures and customer use cases. * Analyses and reproduces problems reported by Customer Support. Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities): * Demonstrated programming and/or scripting proficiency in at least one of the following (C, C++, shell, python) * Strong knowledge and experience with test methodologies, QA process, and software release cycle. * Demonstrated ability to apply appropriate test methodologies including writing test plans and test cases. * Good knowledge of Windows Operating Systems (Win7, Win2k8, Win2k3). * Solid knowledge of networking. * Solid knowledge of the Linux Operating System including various distributions and thin client devices * Strong knowledge of release procedures and software defect tracking. * Solid proficiency in test effort estimation and tracking. Performance testing experience beneficial Requirements (Education, Certification, Training, Experience): * BS degree or equivalent in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field.
