We are currently recruiting for a suitably qualified Principal Mechanical Engineers to join our business based from our office in Stevenage. The purpose of the role will be to undertake a full range of engineering activities in line with all relevant process, quality and other requirements, supplying specialist advice and support across projects and to other functions as appropriate. Accountabilities include: * Responsible for generation and delivery of concept and manufacturing design definitions, based on technical specifications, requirements and other constraints. * Participate in developing and maintaining relevant engineering processes and procedures. * Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan and budget. * Support the identification of business opportunities and the preparation of bids. * Define appropriate test programs for design verification and make results-based recommendations on their outcome, including suggestions for improving test/diagnosis process. * Generate applicable interface requirements and other specifications as required. * Present work in various forums as required. * Keep up to date in relevant technical areas; develop skills and capabilities and supply support and expertise to others as required. * Act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external) and/or suppliers and collaborators on assigned engineering matters. * Lead engineering support activities in the field and for assigned products; develop documentation to support in-service use. * Lead a small sub-team as required. At times it will be necessary to provide mentoring/coaching to direct less experienced team members. * Take responsibility and be able to justify decisions related to assigned structural tasks. * Manage assigned budgets and provide support for securing new work which will include estimating the manning, costs and identifying risk associated with structural analysis tasks. * Participate in collaborative ventures within the same skill areas, with colleagues in France. * Act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external), suppliers and collaborators for assigned structural analysis matters. * Provide effective support to customers for assigned structural analysis, delivering solutions of high quality whilst also meeting the customer's requirements and programme plans. * Keep up to date and develop relevant technical skills, knowledge and capabilities. The purpose of the role will be to carry out a range of engineering activities as assigned in an engineering/project team in accordance with all relevant process, quality and other requirements. Accountabilities include: * Develop design specifications under guidance and carry out design activities in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards * Implement servo studies, both theoretical and practical to ensure that the actuator being designed will have a performance, which is within specified limits for all known conditions of usage * Construct mathematical models of the actuator for performance assessment and software specification and validate by practical testing before using for sensitivity, optimization and qualification studies * Contribute to process improvement within the engineering/project team to deliver continuous improvements in quality, cycle time, asset utilisation, etc. * Liaise closely with and develop a detailed appreciation of the work carried out by other disciplines, in particular Mechanical, Software and Electronics Engineering. * Specify tests within a clearly defined area and evaluate and make recommendations based on results, including making suggestions to improve test/diagnosis processes. * Carry out engineering support activities in the field for specific products and customers to ensure the operability of MBDA products. * Assess implications of data analysis and formulate initial conclusions to more senior engineers to take necessary decisions on actions. * Supply a technical interface with suppliers/customers at a detailed level, ensuring the effective provision of support to customers in assigned areas in line with customer requirements and programme plans, as well as the rapid resolution or escalation of problems and issues. * Carry out or support investigations into engineering problems or issues (individually or as a member of a team), present basic conclusions and recommendations to senior staff and identify and highlight potential resolutions, trends, improvements and emerging issues. * Plan, deliver and monitor assigned tasks, ensuring requirements are delivered to plan. * Provide technical support to Operational activities to optimise effective processes, resolving standard problems to minimise interruptions to production. * Keep up to date in relevant technical areas and develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services, seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge locally to continuously improve own practices. * Participate in bid preparation to facilitate the development of successful bids. * Contribute to engineering team decisions to support the effective performance of the team.
