JOB DESCRIPTION Overall Focus - Participate in our agile project teams on the build of major software releases Key Responsibilities - Develop complex, multiple modules of code - Write complete functional and design specs - Capable of subsystem or functional area ownership - Works with client groups to determine technical approaches - Works across functional teams to develop system/unit functional specifications - Proactive communication skills and effectively communicates difficult messages consistent with management direction - Develops tools or processes as appropriate Technical Knowledge / Skills - Excellent server side Java development inc. multi-threading, concurrency etc. - Good experience in Spring Framework and servlet containers (Tomcat, Jetty, etc) - Good understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, SSL, HTTPS; perhaps with some experience with traffic captures - Experience in real-time traffic processing (firewalls, port forwarding, etc.) - Understanding of HTTP proxy servers is highly desirable - Web Services (SOAP, REST) - Hibernate or other ORM Requested Background - Minimum of 5-8 years experience with relevant degree - Experience of working in an agile environment - Confidence working both independently and as part of a small team. - Ability to evaluate and integrate 3rd-Party technologies into an existing codebase. - Java code profiling and optimization. - Strong analytical and problem solving skills - The ability to establish and maintain confidence with ownership of issues - Strong leadership, coaching and skills development - Strong communications skills to all management levels - Team player - Clear record of achievement and a willingness to work hard and preserve to make things happen - Fluency in English - Holder of relevant work permit java developer

Fidessa is looking for a Operational Software Engineer. The Global Operational Services Team work on global projects and are based in the UK and US. You will be providing technical analysis and 3rd line support along with helping to build tools and reports to aid the smooth running of Fidessa's operational environment and services. This environment supports a large and demanding global trading community, connecting with the largest equity and derivative exchanges through a global network. Key Requirements: Hold an IT, numerate or business related Degree or equivalent experience Methodical approach to complex problem solving. Ability to work under pressure, proactively utilising contacts to resolve issues. Familiarity with a modern UNIX environment, such as Linux or Solaris. Familiarity with networking including Multicast data. Proficiency in one of the following: TCL, Python, JavaScript or PHP scripting languages. Familiarity with relational database concepts and the software development lifecycle. It would be advantageous to understand the business and practises of Equity trading and how our products support this but full training will be provided Duties and Responsibilities: Understand and become familiar with Fidessa technologies and our operational environment. Write ad-hoc scripts to analyse and summarise logs. 3rd line support for our production and test environments. Work with support, development, hardware and network specialists to identify and solve problems. Recreation of reported issues in our test environment. Raise bug reports and assist development in understanding the issues. Use PHP, SQL and TCL to write scripts or web pages to expand Fidessa's internal monitoring and reporting systems. Design, development, testing and implementation of new operational tools to clarify issues and help identify trends.
