In line with the company's ambitious growth plans, we now seek to appoint a talented individual to join the senior management team. An experienced mechanical estimator with proven experience working in the power generation / petrochemical market, your duties will include: * The development of detailed estimates based on first principles created from client specifications for proposed work in the areas of new construction on "green" and "brown" field sites, routine repair, maintenance and annual outages. * To arrive at a thorough understanding of client specifications and drawings to fully understand the mechanical scope of works. * To prepare enquiries for equipment, materials, and services, to assess the technical content of returned quotations and to respond to technical queries raised by vendors. * To identify and properly document all variation to and deviations from the clients specifications. Identify and evaluate potential risks. Generate the mechanical engineering content of tender documents as necessary, as an individual or as part of a team. * Providing supporting data, in the form of resource histograms, site organisation charts, construction schedules, clarifications and exclusions to be included in proposal documentation. * Ensure maintenance and updating of internal costing database and the other procedures. * Analyse current contract records/times/costs/to promote in-house feedback for estimating purposes by development of estimating databases. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS: Have an understanding and some training of Health and Safety requirements to work in an engineering environment. To manage and motivate shop floor personnel regarding their daily work related tasks To plan each individual job and complete our quality planning sheets in accordance with our quality procedures. Communicate to the workshop personnel the work related tasks. To communicate efficiently with customers, confirming agreements. Communicate with the management and design personnel. Take a role in monitoring and training/coaching apprentices in craft and technical skills i.e. use of machine tools and processes. Organise the shifts teams according to the workload. Assist in managing the workshop housekeeping, maintenance and safety with a view of constant improvement. Undertake other business related duties delegated by management. SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE A good mechanical technical aptitude with the ability and drive to solve engineering problems. The technical experience relevant to general machining and workshop practises. Knowledge of Carbon steels, Stainless Steel, Phosphorus Bronze etc and their uses Strong communication skills. Good knowledge and experience of IT skills. Proven Management/Supervision experience Strong organisational, project management skills PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS You will have served a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering relevant to the manufacturing, maintenance or repair environment. City in Guilds qualifications or equivalent ONC/ HNC/NCQ or equivalent would be preferable.
