Senior Principal Engineer (Platform Integration - Naval) - Bristol MBDA, a world leader in missiles and missile systems, is a multi-national group with 10,000 employees at industrial facilities in France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany and the United States. We are currently recruiting for a suitably qualified Senior Principal Engineer (Platform Integration - Naval) to join our business based from our office in Bristol. The role will be responsible for providing Naval Integration support to programmes undertaking Naval Platform Integration activities. Accountabilities include: * Responsible for technically managing specific trials and integration programmes on naval development and in-service contracts. * Provide expertise and guidance as required by naval projects, providing the necessary inputs, skills and functional policies. The projects may include Seawolf (UK & Export), PAAMS & Sea Ceptor. * Provision of project control and associated reporting on a specific Trials and integration packages. * Provide support to Integration and Trial document reviews including Trial Safety Documentation. * Provide support to I&SV Functional Reviews, Naval Trial Readiness Reviews, Fit to Fire Reviews and subsequent Wash-up meetings including preparation of review material. * Support to future business opportunities. The role will be responsible for the provision of "in-project" support to Systems Engineering methods and tools activities. Accountabilities include: * Providing in-project consultancy style support to key projects, in particular during their start-up phase, tailored to project needs to ensure maximum project benefit is obtained from tool use * Assessing current expertise relating to core Systems Engineering tools such as Rhapsody, DOORS and Dimensions and developing/delivering process improvement * Supporting implementation of Product Lifecycle Collaborative Environment (PLCE) and MBSE related activities (International and National based) * Ability to understand and implement MBSE (Model Based Systems Engineering) concepts into practising projects. * Provision of appropriate training on tool usage to projects Systems Engineers, in particular use of Rhapsody * Developing appropriate DOORS tool to manage requirements, verification and safety information and import and export of data * Testing in-house DOORS tool set with new DOORS releases and associated integrations e.g. Rhapsody toolset * Supporting Rhapsody Gateway linking to elements managed in DOORS * Liaising with the wider IM function in order to support the systems engineering tools * Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team. * Keep up to date in relevant technical areas, develop skills and capabilities to be able to provide more effective services (seeking and sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices), and supply technical support and expertise to others as required. * Manage and report against the group's work programmes, including analysis of risk, to ensure the group delivers its accountabilities To view and apply for this vacancy please use the apply button below, and quote 'The Career Engineer' as the source. The role will be responsible for System Design activities contributing to the Specification, Design and Validation of the FLAADS C2 & LMS Subsystems. Accountabilities include: * Carry out a full range of technical analyses and investigations, including evaluation and selection of technical options and prepare reports with suggested recommendations to support the development of maritime, land and export derivatives of the FLAADS C2 & LMS design. * Prepare a full range of specifications, develop designs in line with specifications and all quality and technical standards, and carry out design appraisals in assigned areas to ensure all standards are maintained. * Carry out investigations into a full range of problems, issues or developments and develop and prepare solutions, individually or as a member of a project team. * Requirements analysis and design in response to customer requirements * Identification of key design vulnerabilities to change between Maritime and Land solutions * Development and embedding "hooks" into C2 design to enable adaptation/configuration for Land & Export applications * Investigation of potential re-use options for cost savings * Production and maintenance of FLAADS C2 & LMS software requirements specifications and interface requirements specifications * Ensuring correct flow down of top-level requirements to C2 & LMS sub-systems and interfaces * Plan, control and deliver assigned projects or work packages. * Carry out team planning, risk management and quality activities in assigned areas in line with all requirements and processes. * Provide effective support to customers in assigned areas, delivering solutions to meet the customer's needs and requirements. * Provide help and direction to less experienced team members to support both their effective working and their development. * Manage and report against the team's work programmes, including analysis of risk to ensure the team delivers its accountabilities. The Bristol team currently consists of 3 partners, 4 associates, 11 solicitors and 3 paralegals. The team advises public, private and third sector employers on human resource issues from daily personnel matters, including disciplinary and grievance issues, to strategic management issues such as collective redundancy programmes, industrial action, transfers of employees both within and outside the UK. The Group handles approximately 2,000 Employment Tribunal claims per annum. Technical excellence, client service and delivering innovative solutions to our client's problems is of paramount importance and we are seeking a commercially minded lawyer who is keen to develop their career within a law firm which can provide excellent work from unrivalled spread of public sector clients and a growing commercial client base of national and international brands. Core Responsibilities You will be required to undertake a varied workload of employment matters advising employers in both the public and private sectors. You will also progress client matters with an appropriate level of supervision from more experienced fee-earners whilst maintaining an awareness of the appropriate limits of own competence/authority. From time to time you'll be required to take part in and initiate marketing / network activities in order to maintain and develop work from existing clients and potential clients. This includes presenting and assisting in client seminars. You'll also need to contribute to non fee-earning activity as appropriate e.g. knowledge sharing, training. As a member of a busy team you'll need to support the effective running of the team e.g. contributing to team meetings as well as providing support for colleagues where appropriate e.g. progressing matters in colleagues' absence. On an on-going basis it crucial that you are able to develop the team clients and your own contacts. Due to the nature of the role it is important to maintain and develop technical knowledge through attendance at training sessions, reading appropriate publications and exceeding Law Society CPD requirements. It is important that confidential information is handled in line with the firms data security protocols. Key Skills Ideally you will be a solicitor of typically 0-2 years plus qualification. Due to the nature of the role, you will have experience of advising commercial employers . You must possess experience of contentious and non contentious matters as well as handling tribunal claims. You will be self-motivated with an enthusiasm for employment law. It is important that you have a good academic record, together with experience in a well-recognised firm. You'll need to be an independent thinker with a focus on generating commercial solutions to problems on behalf of clients. Track record of business development is desirable. You must be willing and able to develop own advocacy. It goes without saying that you'll need to be a confident communicator with an ability to develop relationships, undertake client marketing and influence at all levels.
