Areas of work Corporate (including corporate finance, funds, corporate tax, business technology); employment and pensions; finance; dry and wet shipping litigation; commercial litigation; and real estate. Who should apply Firstly we look for a quick intellect. As well as a predicted 2:1 in any discipline plus 320 UCAS points or equivalent, you'll need strong analytical skills, sound judgment, imagination and meticulous attention to detail. Also vital are the communication skills to be persuasive and build rapport, plenty of drive and determination, plus a keen interest in business. Candidates must demonstrate fluent spoken and written English language skills. Mandarin Chinese language skills are desirable. Training programme As the graduate intake is relatively small, the firm gives trainees individual attention, coaching and monitoring. Your structured and challenging programme involves four six month seats in different practice groups within the firm covering contentious and non-contentious areas. These seats include 'on the job' training and you will share an office with a partner or senior associate. In-house lectures complement your training and there is continuous review of your career development. As a trainee at SH you will be given your own caseload and as much responsibility as you can shoulder. The successful candidates' role is to take initial instructions, undertake research, prepare legal documentation, consult and advise clients and undertake various business development tasks as required. Outside of the office At SH we aim to strike a balance between work and life outside of work. The firm plays a range of team sports, offers subsidised health club membership, has privileged seats for concerts at the Royal Albert Hall and offers concessions to more than 200 galleries and museums.
